Nora Springs updates parks

Mill Pond Park updates completed, ready for visitors

In the fall of 2013, a large project was undertaken by the Nora Springs Park and Rec Board and some concerned community members. The idea was to improve the park areas in existence in Nora Springs for the enjoyment of its citizens and the surrounding area.

The first step was to clear dead and overgrown trees at the Mill Pond Park — much of which was completed in 2013.

In the same year a 10-footby- 14-foot steel bridge for the spillway was purchased and unloaded with the help of Stan and Aaron Sprung, Bobbie Weiner and Tom Alden.

Then, in the fall of 2014, new spillway gates were installed along with additional brush and tree management from community members and Boy Scout Troop 22. Finally, in the autumn of 2015, the bridge has been placed, decking and side railing installed and concrete approaches secured at each end of the bridge.

It is the hope of the Nora Springs Park and Rec Board that many citizens will use the Mill Pond Park for leisure time activities such as hiking, fishing, bird watching and picnicking. With the completion of the spillway bridge, vehicular or pedestrian traffic have a great access to the lower area of the berm. Also this park is now connected to Lookout Point Park with a trail at the end of the Mill Pond road.

In addition to the above improvements, new sidewalk, benches and picnic tables have been installed at Boulder Park in Nora Springs. These projects have been funded through grants from Omnitel and the Adams Family Foundation of Nora Springs. Everyone is encouraged to enjoy the parks in Nora Springs during this beautiful time of year.
