being treated fairly.

Hoover’s Hatchery has been building a strong reputation since 1944. For 34 years Bob and Helen Hoover owned and operated Hoover’s Hatchery. In 1978 Mary Halsted and her late husband Doug took over the business.

Despite being in business since 1944, it has not changed hands very frequently. Halsted owned and operated Hoover’s Hatchery from 1978 until this year when Steve Weiss and Robert Taubert became majority owners with Tony Halsted as a minority owner. Customers who have grown to know Mary Halsted will be happy to know she remains Hoover’s manager and consultant.

Consistent ownership and management has allowed Hoover’s to become a successful, national business pleasing customers with a variety of needs across the United States. Both employees and customers appreciate

being treated fairly.

The hatchery is family oriented and Mary has always felt her employees were her “family” – and that has been very important. This past year the Hoover’s family expanded. Employees are continually being added including Weiss’ son, Luke, who was recently hired as the new CFO. Besides hiring more employees, space and available chicks have been increased.

also doubled from 15 to 30 in the local area, Oelwein/Hazelton area and in Seymour, MO. This has allowed the retail, wholesale and large distributor customers to increase substantially. Although growing, Hoover’s Hatchery’s priorities stay the same: maintaining a family atmosphere, best quality chickens, great service and providing lots of friendliness.
