RRMR edges out Nashua-Plainfield in OT thriller
Rockford Senior High school was loud — really loud — on Tuesday night when Nashua-Plainfield came to town. The cross-county rivals were pitted against each other in the first game of the year.
A 66-63 Warrior win left fans exhausted, satisfied and at least half of them elated.
This is what Top of Iowa Conference basketball is all about.
For it being the first game of the year, any team is allowed mental mistakes here and there. But in what seemed like a state-tournament, win-or-go-home type of contest, those mistakes were hard to come by.
With a wide grin, RRMR head coach Ben Klapperich said he knows there are things his team needs to work on, but was still able to enjoy Tuesday night’s win.
“We got down at times, and they fought back. They didn’t just give up,” Klapperich said. “They really fought back. There was a time that we could’ve put it away, but the careless mistakes (didn’t let us).”
With about seven minutes left, the game looked like it would be all but wrapped up. Leading 42-33, the Warriors got challenged.
