Rockford’s McGregor, Staudt named to Top of Iowa-East First Team

The Rockford girls basketball team came to a crashing end Monday with a humbling 48-17 loss to North Linn in the Class 2A-Regional 5 final.

The Lady Warriors ended the season at 20-4 after winning their first 11 games of the season. With a 13-3 record in the Top of Iowa-East Conference, Rockford ended in a three-way tie with Osage and West Fork. Both teams the Lady Warriors went 1-1 against during the regular season. Rockford defeated West Fork in the regional semifinal.

On Tuesday, the Top of Iowa Conference released its all-conference selections for both its West and East divisions. In the Top of Iowa-East Conference, two Lady Warriors were named to the first team: seniors Madison McGregor and Emma Staudt.

A four-year starter for the Warriors, Staudt will continue her basketball career in South Carolina where she will play for Winthrop University, a Division 1 school.

Early in the year, Staudt scored her 1,000th career point. She later exceeded 400 rebounds and 200 assists for her career.

This past season, Staudt led the Lady Warriors in scoring (14.8 points per game), 3-point shots made (51 with a 43.2 shooting percentage), free throws made (83) and free throw percentage (76.1) and steals (88).

McGregor will also continue her career in college as she signed on to play for Columbia (Mo.) College, an NAIA program.

This past season, McGregor came back knee surgery to average 13.8 ppg while leading the team in offensive rebounds (69), total rebounds (162), assists (63), blocks (15) and field goal percentage (46.4) based on more than 10 shots taken.

North Butler junior Nicole Heeren was selected to the TOIE second team. Heeren led the Lady Bearcats in scoring (8.7 ppg), field goal percentage (51.8), total rebounds (123) and assists (42).

Three local player were named to honorable mention all-conference for the TOIE.

Nashua-Plainfield senior Sierra Fisher was honored after leading the Lady Huskies in scoring (8.3 ppg), field goal percentage, and rebounds.

North Butler senior Hallie Testroet was honored after averaging more than 8 points a game and shooting nearly 40 percent from 3-point range.

Rockford sophomore Morgan Thieman was honored after averaging 7.5 ppg for the Lady Warriors.

Central Springs scoring machine, junior Kaylee Parks who averaged 21.5 ppg, was the TOIE Player of the Year.

Osage’s Chad Erickson was named TOIE Coach of the Year.
