The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident Friday morning, after a storm and blizzard system overnight left slick roads through the county.

According to a Facebook post by the office, Deputy Ben Kostka saw vehicle tracks leading off of the Avenue of the Saints early in the morning. A driver had slid off of the road and dropped 10 feet into a culvert, receiving only minor injuries.

Floyd County is under a significant travel impact warning from the National Weather Service after Thursday night thunderstorms evolved into a blizzard. The Charles City Fire Station recorded two inches of snow accumulation by 11 a.m., and the NWS reported the possibility of 1 to 3 more inches of snow accumulation through the day. Rain and freezing rain were also possible through Friday.

The worst weather is anticipated to end by Saturday morning, with mostly blowing snow and sunny skies were forecasted through the weekend. Temperatures on Saturday could reach a high near 25, and on Sunday, near 33, before rain and snow is anticipated to return next week, the NWS reported.
