The strings of the Charles City Community Chamber Orchestra combined with the horns and woodwinds of the North Iowa Community Winds and Brass Performers to present an “aural movie” Sunday afternoon.

A full house enjoyed the performance at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City.

Conducted by John Chiles and narrated by Scott Blankenbaker, the combined groups presented “Rebirth,” a musical journey representing Ludwig Van Beethoven’s despair at his realization he was losing his hearing and his eventual acceptance of the situation and his commitment to his music.

The performance featured music by Beethoven, Dmitri Shostakovich, Jean Sibelius, Anton Dvorak and Edvard Grieg.

The event was sponsored by the Virginia Zastrow-Smith Endowment for the Performing Arts.
