Dog lovers from around the area converged on the Riverfront Park Saturday in Charles City for a leisurely stroll or a nice jog. The seventh annual PAWS Cedar Dog Jog saw all kinds of pooches and runners or walkers hit the trails around the scenic Cedar River.

Julie Taylor, PAWS Humane Society director and organizer of the Cedar Dog Jog, said she had the most ever pre-registered for the event and she was happy to see owners in attendance who have adopted dogs from her animal shelter. The event is also a fundraiser for PAWS.

Owners and their dogs chose either a 5K or one-mile run/walk, and others participated without a pet. All walkers and runners were given a T-shirt and a water bottle. Pre-registered dogs received a bandana.

Dog microchipping was also available where the event was setup at the Labyrinth later in the morning.

Brian Watkins, from Charles City, brought his 1-year old schnauzer, Gunnar, to take part in the festivities.

“It’s good socialization” for the young dog, he said.
