It was a great day for some sidewalk chalk art on Friday morning in Charles City.
About 30 creative chalk artists, the majority of them kids from the Y’s Guys child care in town, visited Apple Valley Assisted Living and were able to share with residents their colorful drawings on the sidewalk in front of the building.
“We just thought it would be a good idea for the kids to meet with the elderly,” said Elaine Coblentz, the nurse manager at Apple Valley Assisted Living.
Many residents enjoyed the pleasant weather outside to take in the wonderful display of bright hues that soon adorned the entrance to Apple Valley.
“I think it’s wonderful,” said Andrea Riedemann, Y’s Guys child care director.
It didn’t matter that a chance of rain over the weekend might wash some of the neon green or bright orange decorations off the sidewalk that the kids worked on.
“Older and younger — they’re still going to enjoy it,” said Coblentz.
After the kids were done drawing outside, everyone went inside to enjoy cookies and beverages.
