Supervisor and treasurer candidates among latest to file for fall election

Fourteen more people have filed nomination papers to run for Floyd County offices in the fall general election, including the fourth candidate for one of two available county supervisors seats and a challenger to the longtime county treasurer.

Candidates running as Republicans or Democrats were selected at the county primary election in June, but people can also seek county office without being chosen by a political party by filing nominations papers during the period now running through Wednesday, Aug. 29.

The latest to file includes Michael Staudt, who farms near Floyd, running for county supervisor. Staudt had previously announced that he would run as a no-party candidate, and his filing puts him officially on the ballot.

Staudt is the son of former supervisor Leo Staudt and currently serves on the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Board of Education.

The two seats opening on the county board are now held by Democrat Mark Kuhn and Republican Doug Kamm. Kamm has filed for re-election, but Kuhn is not seeking another term.

Democrats Stewart Dalton and Roy Schwickerath are also running for the supervisor seats.

Also filing recently, according to Amanda Theilen, the election clerk in the Floyd County Auditor’s Office, is a candidate for Floyd County treasurer.

Todd Schriever, of Marble Rock, has filed as a no-party candidate to challenge incumbent Treasurer Frank Rottinghaus, a Democrat who has held the position since 1993 and has filed to run for re-election. In the last two elections Rottinghaus was unopposed.

Schriever, 52, is store manager of Harbor Freight in Mason City. He said he enjoys working with the public and “just wanted to do something for the community.”

“Sometimes change is good,” he said.
