It’s still Chucktown Brewfest, it’s just been tweaked a little bit.

“It’s the Charles City version of Oktoberfest, only this year we’re incorporating wine-tasting and all things fall,” said Mark Wicks, Charles City community development director. “This is just a variation on the Chucktown Brewfest. There are some things we’re kind of adding to spice up our events.”

The event, called Keg & Bottle, will be 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and it’s an outdoor take on the traditional Chucktown Brewfest, put on by Community Revitalization.

As always, the event will include sampling Iowa craft beers and enjoying German-style music, food and games. This year’s version will also feature wine samples and will be held at Central Park.

“We had a lot of people suggest moving it outdoors, and people suggested a fall theme,” said Wicks. “We’re constantly seeking feedback and looking for new ideas. We’re trying some of the things that were suggested. We hope to incorporate a lot of things people like.”

Tickets include food, samples of each featured beer/wine, along with a special keepsake Keg & Bottle glass. Traditional live polka music will be performed by Marc Frana from 5-7 p.m., and there will be an opportunity to bid on a number of different wine and beer-themed silent auction baskets throughout the evening. There will also be bottled water available for those who don’t care to imbibe.

There will only be 225 tickets sold, and Wicks said they’re going fast.

“When they’re gone, they’re gone,” Wicks said. “There’s no guarantee that there will be tickets available that night.”

Wines will be included from Engelbrecht Family Winery in Fredericksburg, Darbe & Co. Boutique in Charles City as well as Hy-Vee. German-style games will include the always-popular Hammerschlagen, in which several contestants try to hammer a nail into a stump. Wicks said that there will be a variety of craft beers from about eight different Iowa breweries to sample. Guests must be at least 21 years old to attend.

“People should know this is a night for tasting, not a night for over-indulgence,” Wicks said. “Just like with Party in the Park, we trust our community to be responsible.”

Wicks said he is hoping for good weather. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the event will be moved inside the Columbus Club at 502 Clark St.

Tickets are available, while they last, at the Community Development Office at 401 North Main St., as well as the Charles City Hy-Vee service counter.
