Starting at about 7:40 a.m. Saturday, people were lining up outside the Columbus Club building in Charles City.

“We always joke, it’s a little bit like Black Friday when the sale opens, because we have people lined up out the door,” said PAWS Director Julie Taylor. “It’s been a great turnout.”

The PAWS Humane Society rummage sale was held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. All proceeds from the sale will go to help the non-profit animal shelter, located at 303 Shaw Avenue on the east end of town.

“Primarily the expenses go to having the animals spayed, neutered and vaccinated,” Taylor said. Other PAWS fundraisers include the dog jog and dueling pianos, coming up next month. Taylor said the goal Saturday was to raise at least $1,000 from the rummage sale event, which has been going on twice a year for at least 15 years.

There was a steady stream of shoppers going in and out the door Saturday.

“A lot of regulars come back to every sale,” Taylor said. “We appreciate everyone’s support, and so far it’s been very successful.”
