The Charles City High School Marching Band wrapped up its season last Saturday at the 2018 Iowa State Marching Band Festival at Dodger Stadium in Fort Dodge. Eighteen bands throughout Iowa participated in the festival.

The band received a Division II rating at the festival. Bands are evaluated and judged on six categories: marching and maneuvering general effect, marching and maneuvering execution, music execution, music general effect, percussion and color guard.

“While we didn’t quite reach the Division I rating we were hoping for, I was really proud of this group,” said Jake Gassman, Charles City High School director of bands, “They improved by leaps and bounds every performance. We didn’t have a single performance that I thought was a step back, which is rare in any season with that many performances.”

The Comet Marching Band had seven performances this year.

“We have set ourselves up for a great concert band season,” Gassman said. “The first few rehearsals indoors have me really excited for the level of music we are going to create over the next several months.”
