Who will win in the Hometown Scavenger Hunt? Find out Sunday, Oct. 21, and enjoy free admission to the Floyd County Historical Museum in the process.

Charles City’s Scavenger Hunt challenge wraps up at 6 p.m. today (Friday). Everyone who successfully submitted all 10 correct answers will be entered into the prize drawing and the winners announced at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Floyd County Historical Museum will host the announcement reception by being open special hours, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, with free admission to the museum and all its displays and exhibits.

This will offer an opportunity to check out the updated Charles City Tornado 50th anniversary display, as well as the fully restored Legel Drug Store, pioneer log cabin and the Hart Parr-Oliver-White tractor display room.

People participating in the Hometown Scavenger Hunt test their knowledge of Charles City and their detective skills in solving clues. Sign-up is at the Community Revitalization office at 401 N. Main St.

Once entered, participants receive their first of 10 clues to locations around the community. As they figure out each clue they take a picture of the answer with their smartphone and send the picture or text the answer to a special number to have the answer verified and receive the next clue.

Persons who submit all 10 correct answers are eligible for the drawing for the top prize of $50. Second prize is $20, or double the entry fee. Third prize is $10.

The museum will be open Sunday to everyone, not just Scavenger Hunt participants.  Refreshments will be provided during the reception.

The Scavenger Hunt is presented by the Design Committee of Community Revitalization as a fundraiser to benefit downtown beautification efforts in Charles City.

The Community Revitalization Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 641-228-2335 or email info@charlescitychamber.com for more information.
