Pedestrians will soon be able to again walk alongside McQuillen Place in Charles City once new sidewalks are complete.

Work started on the city project along Main and Clark streets last week and is being done by Nolts Custom Concrete of Orchard. Nolts foreman Ervin Reiff said the sidewalk concrete work would be done this week. In addition to pouring and finishing the six-inch thick Portland cement concrete sidewalk, decorative brick pavers adjacent to the curbs and handicapped-accessible ramps will also be constructed.

Street lights, along with the bases and wiring, will also be put in the following week according to Reiff.

Nolts won the bid to complete the project for a cost of just under $50,000.

The sidewalks were taken out four years ago in 2014 while work was being done on McQuillen Place, which has since stalled.
