Press salute to veterans generates $2,000 for memorial

Area veterans, their families and the Charles City Press combined to raise $2,000 that was donated to support the Floyd County Veterans Memorial at the courthouse.

The newspaper published its annual “Celebrating Veterans” special pages in the Press last Friday before Veterans Day, featuring more than 200 photos of area veterans. Photos were included for $5 donations that were matched by the Press.

Art White, a member of the Floyd County Veterans Memorial Committee, said the money would be used for memorial maintenance and for other projects the group was considering to honor veterans.
