Snow back in the forecast this weekend

It’s still five weeks until winter officially starts, but wintry weather is back in the forecast.

The National Weather Service says the area could be in for an inch to 3 inches of snow this weekend with temperatures well below the 40s that had been predicted earlier.

The NWS is fairly certain some snow will fall, but less sure about where. The latest forecast calls for a band of 2-3 inches of snow falling just north and east of Charles City Friday night, with a warning that band could shift north or south.

The high for today (Friday) is expected to be about 37, with a 90 percent chance of snow beginning tonight and 1-3 inches for the area. The latest maps Thursday evening showed the snow belt over Charles City dropping 1-2 inches.

Temperatures are expected to drop into the low 20s tonight then stay in the 20s and teens through the weekend. See more details in the weather report on page 2.
