Marine Corps League has a long history of helping kids at Christmastime

The North Iowa Marine Corps League is again collecting toys throughout the area for its annual Toys for Tots campaign to help assure there is something special awaiting every child on Christmas.

Toys For Tots LogoSign-ups begin today (Monday) for children to receive a toy for Christmas. They will be:

  • Charles City – Noon-3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at the NIACC Center, 200 Harwood Drive.
  • Nora Springs – 6-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at the City Hall.
  • Charles City – 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the NIACC Center.
  • Rockford – 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the City Hall.
  • Charles City – 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the NIACC Center.
  • Marble Rock – 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the Library.

People can sign up at any of the signup times or locations, but the program is for Floyd County residents only.

Detachment No. 859 of the North Iowa Marine Corps League will have collection boxes for new, unwrapped toys in business throughout the area, including at the Press.

The League will be filling trucks with toys on Saturday, Dec. 15, in the Theisen’s parking lot. The trucks are loaned by Mike Molstead Motors and the event will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day.

Members will also accept cash donations to buy toys.

Toys for Tots began more than 60 years ago and has been run by the Marine Corps League and the Marine Corps Reserve.

In north Iowa there have been several generations of families that have donated to and/or received help from the program.
