Snow tapering off this afternoon; more coming this weekend

190220 wxSnow continues to impact the area this morning with snow-covered roads leading to hazardous travel.

Snowfall amounts of 2 to 6 inches have been reported so far, with the highest amounts over parts of northeast Iowa and southeast Minnesota. Total accumulations of 5 to 8 inches are expected, according to National Weather Service forecasts.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for Floyd and other area counties until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Additional bands of moderate to at times heavy snow will impact the region through late morning. Freezing drizzle may mix with the snow at times over parts of northeast Iowa and southwest Wisconsin.

Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Some drifting snow is expected in open areas.

The snow will gradually taper off during the afternoon.

Snow or a wintry mix is expected Friday night into Sunday morning. Depending on the storm track, significant snowfall is possible, but amounts remain far from certain at this time, the National Weather Service said.

Snow is possible Monday night and Tuesday. It is too early to determine potential amounts with this system.
