CCHS musicians finally get to play

They finally had their concert — and that’s just what they called it.
The Charles City High School string orchestra and symphonic band joined forces at the North Grand Building Thursday evening to present their “We’re Finally Having The” Concert.
The two groups decided to play back-to-back shows after juggling the schedule around because of all the postponements and cancellations caused by weather.
The string orchestra was directed by Bethany Rhine while the symphonic band was directed by Jake Gassman.
The orchestra performed “Ice Sculptures” by Brian Balmages, “Galena-Milwaukee Breakdown” by Catherine McMichael, featuring the wire choir, “A Pirate’s Legend” by Soon Hee Newbold and closed their performance with “Ashokan Farewell” by Jay Unger, arranged by Calvin Custer.
The band performed “Urban Scenes,” a piece in five movements by Iowa composer Andrew Boyson, Jr., wrapped up the evening with “Inchon” by Robert W. Smith.
