Ballot set for county general election

The county filing deadline for the Nov. 6 general election ended this week, and — barring any last-minute withdrawals or objections — the ballot for Floyd County has been set.

There will be a four-way race for the two open seats on the Board of Supervisors. With only incumbent Doug Kamm seeking re-election, there will be at least one new members elected to that board. Mark Kuhn is not running for re-election.

The only other department head race will be for county treasurer, where Todd Schriever has filed to challenge incumbent Frank Rottinghaus.

Incumbent Floyd County Attorney Rachel Ginbey and incumbent Floyd County Recorder Deb Roberts are running for re-election unopposed.

No additional persons filed nomination papers since the report published by the Press last week, according to Amanda Theilen, elections clerk in the Floyd County Auditor’s Office.

That leaves the ballot for the major county department offices as follows:

County supervisor (vote for two):

  • Stewart M. Dalton, Charles City (D)
  • Roy Schwickerath, Charles City (D)
  • Douglas Kamm, Charles City (R)
  • Michael Staudt, Floyd (NP)

County treasurer:

  • Frank H. Rottinghaus, Charles City (D)
  • Todd Schriever, Marble Rock (NP)

County recorder:

  • Deborah K. Roberts, Floyd (NP)

County attorney:

  • Rachel Ginbey, Rockford (R)

In addition, almost three dozen county residents are running for positions on township boards, Extension council and the soil and water conservation district. Some townships did not have people file for open seats, Theilen said.

The filing deadline for non-party candidates was Wednesday, April 29. The deadline for withdrawals or objections is 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4.
