A Charles City woman charged with trying to kill her mother has pleaded not guilty and a date has been set for trial.

Jennifer Katherine Bean, age 44, of Charles City, was charged with attempted murder in November after allegedly injecting her mother with insulin without her consent. The action resulted in the victim having low blood sugar that if left untreated could have resulted in death, according to court documents.

Bean pleaded not guilty last week in Floyd County District Court and trial has been set for Jan. 8, 2019.

Later in the week Bean’s attorney filed a motion requesting a change of venue to another county. A hearing on that motion has been set for Dec. 10.

Police went to a residence in the 1600 block of Salzar St. on Nov. 6 after a 911 call from that address hung up.

Police initially charged Bean with domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury and interruption of emergency communications for allegedly preventing her mother from calling for help.

Later, after further investigation, police also charged Bean with attempted murder.

Attempted murder is a Class B felony, punishable upon conviction by up to 25 years in prison.
