RRMR school bus hit by van during Friday morning route

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident involving a Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock school bus and a private vehicle on Friday Feb 5. at approximately 7:55 a.m.  

A school bus driven by Carol Wreghitt, 72 from Marble Rock, was traveling west on 240th Street in rural Floyd County. The bus stopped at the intersection of 240th Street and Highway 14 before crossing Highway 14.  A vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 14, driven by Craig Whalen, 42 from Lyle, Minn. struck the bus in the right side rear. One child was later taken by a parent to Mercy Hospital in Mason City for an examination for concussions. No other injuries were reported on Tuesday afternoon.

The vehicle that Whalen was operating was considered to be a total loss. The Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock school bus had an estimated damages of over $3,000. The accident is still under investigation at this time.
