Next Wednesday, May 4, the Charles City High School will host an ice cream social.

“The ice cream social is an event for the people of our community to come and talk with our high school students and have a good time and get to hear some of our entertainment,” Mariah McKenzie, freshman, said.

A variety of entertainment including the high school jazz band and a presentation from the FFA is planned. Snacks and treats will include ice cream and cakes.

“Mrs. (Dene) Lundberg’s baking class is making the cakes,” McKenzie said. “There will be a different variety of cakes.”

Besides enjoying sweet treats and entertainment, the ice cream social is meant to help create communication between the school and the community.

“I think it’s important for people to know about the high school and get more involved with (students), because (the community will) have a better understanding of what we’re doing up there,” McKenzie said. “If someone new is coming into the community you can tell them what we’re doing up there.”

In order to ensure enough cake and ice cream, the community is asked to RSVP for this free event by calling the high school at 641-257-6510. Reservations are asked to be made by Monday, May 2.
