A little reading, a little listening and a little building.

Children stopped by the Charles City Public Library on Tuesday for some after-school learning and fun with books and Legos.

Children’s librarian Dana Schwickerath and the children read the book “Little Mouse and the Big Red Apple” together, and then the grade-school-age kids created a Lego maze like the one in the story. Besides the books and Legos, supplies included toy apples and straws.

The gathering was a part of the Tuesday Library Club. On Tuesdays through the rest of September and to Oct. 16, the Tuesday “Jr. Jr. Book Club” will be reading Beverly Cleary’s “The Mouse and the Motorcycle,” while Wednesdays in September and through Oct. 10 the book club will be reading “The Monster of Morley Manor” by Bruce Coville.

The Tuesday club is for readers from grades 1-3 while the Wednesday club is for readers from grades 3-6. The clubs are after school, from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Also, every Friday at 10:15 a.m. is story time at the library for toddlers and preschool age. Story time includes stories, rhymes, songs and friends.

Schwickerath has been working as a children’s librarian in Charles City for more than 12 years now.

For more information on any of these library programs for children, call the library at 641-257-6319.
