2nd inmate dies in Cerro Gordo jail

MASON CITY (AP) — The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has joined the investigation of an inmate death in a northern Iowa jail.

The Iowa Public Safety Department says Cerro Gordo County jailers found the unresponsive inmate around 3:30 p.m. Saturday. They began lifesaving efforts and were soon joined by medics called to the jail. They were unable to revive the man.

An autopsy has been scheduled. The man's name hasn't been released.

Another man died at the jail last month. Twenty-eight-year-old Dacota Witham was found unresponsive on Dec. 1 and couldn't be revived.
