California men arrested after Nashua police find 27 bags of marijuana

Staff Report

Two California men are in police custody after a Nashua traffic stop yielded nearly thirty pounds of alleged marijuana.

On July 19, the Nashua Police Department pulled over Williams Khieu, 28, and Verak Khieu, 30, of Long Beach, Calif. for a speeding violation along Highway 218, the department said in a press release. Investigation yielded probable cause for a search warrant application, the release said, and a search revealed 27 vacuum sealed plastic bags that each contained approximately one pound of alleged marijuana leaves. Police said the driver also had a “user-amount” of marijuana concealed in his person.

Both subjects were charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and violation of excise tax on unlawful dealing of certain substances –– both class-D felonies. Williams was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor, and excessive speed, a simple misdemeanor.

Both subjects were transported to the Chickasaw County Jail. The Nashua Police Department was assisted with the Iowa State Patrol, the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office and the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office.
