Get your costume ready, Spookwalk is Thursday evening

To the Press

Community Revitialization’s 21st annual Spookwalk will be from 5:30-7 p.m. Oct. 20.

More than 24 local businesses and organizations are ready to participate by setting up along the Riverfront Park recreational trail and give goodies out to an expected 1,200 trick-or-treaters from Charles City and surrounding areas.

This free Halloween event for children 12 years old and younger is sponsored by Community Revitalization. This year’s theme is “Family Movie Night.” Come dressed up as your favorite family movie character, a bag of popcorn or your favorite candy that you like to take to the movies.

Bring your treat bag and a camera as this event is sure to be fun for the whole family.

If the weather forces postponement, the event will be held Oct. 24.

Coloring pages and candy guessing slips were handed out to Washington, Lincoln, and Immaculate Conception Schools. The Spookwalk committee chose their favorite from each school and went through the candy guessing slips to see who guessed close enough to the amount in the jar.

The coloring page winners were Lulu, Breely and Jayla. The candy guessing slip from IC School was Janila with 570 pieces of candy when the jar had 572 pieces. From Lincoln was Toriq with a guess of 512 when the jar had 574. From Washington, the winner was Kamiyah with a guess of 600 when the jar had 579 pieces of candy. Winners receive a Spook Pass which allows them to go through first.

The committee had also selected slips from the schools on why the students like Spookwalk. Here are some:

“Of all the hard work people do for it.”

“I get to walk and see fun scenes.”

“I like the candy and have fun with my mom.”

“I like getting scared! BOO!”

“Having fun with family.”

“This is my first time doing it.”

“It’s fun and spooky but awesome.”

“It is fun and (exercising).”

“The (stations).”

“I lick candy.”

“Because you get candy without having to find a house that’s lit up.”

“You get a lots of candy. So sweet.”

Community Revitalization thanks all the students who participated in the coloring contest and guessing the amount of candy in the jars.
