CC district to have new enrollment study done, free of charge

The Charles City Community School District will have a new enrollment study done for free, Superintendent Dr. Dan Cox told the Board of Education during Monday’s meeting.

The new study comes three years after the district’s last enrollment study done sometime in the 2013-2014 school year. The resulting projections have been higher than Charles City’s actual enrollment numbers over the last three years, off by 95 students, Dr. Cox told the Press on Tuesday.

After speaking with representatives at Iowa School Finance Information Services during a conference in Des Moines, the company later emailed Dr. Cox with an offer to redo the study at no cost.

“They had an outside agency do it for them, and now the study has been incorporated in-house,” Dr. Cox said.

The first study was done as the Board of Education was considering renovation or building options for the Charles City Middle School. New data could be insightful when considering changes to the high school, Dr. Cox said.

“Having it redone at this point should give us better ideas about the high school and, down the road, the elementary schools as well,” Dr. Cox said.

The study could be completed by March, Dr. Cox estimated, and will project the Charles City Community School District’s enrollment numbers five years out.
