A Charles City man was sentenced to 25 years in prison recently for his conviction on charges of first-degree burglary related to a July home break-in in Charles City.
Andre Leisure Johnson, age 29, was convicted in Floyd County District Court on Oct. 26 after a two-day trial. He was sentenced on Friday, Dec. 8.
Police reports say Johnson and two others broke into a home on the 400 block of B Street about 9:30 p.m. July 25. A person who was in the home at the time hid in a closet and called 9-1-1, saying that three people, possibly armed, were in the home.
When officers arrived one person was trying to climb out a window and appeared to be armed with a weapon, that turned out to be a pellet gun, police said.
One person who was at the home at the time of the breakin was taken to the hospital and received staples for a head wound.
Johnson has three prior felony convictions for burglary, a felony conviction for robbery, two convictions for theft (one a felony) and a felony conviction for unlawful use of a weapon.
Also charged in the incident were Michael Benjamin Jackson and DeAngelo Aaron Hawkins, both age 20 and both from Charles City. Both were charged with first-degree burglary and both entered written pleas of guilty to second-degree burglary.
Jackson was sentenced in October to 10 years in prison, suspended; a $1,000 fine, suspended; and five years probation.
Hawkins’ plea hearing was in November and he is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 8, 2018.
