Press Staff Report

This year’s citywide spring cleanup will be April 23 to April 26 in Charles City, for larger items to be picked-up by city crews and Jendro Sanitation.

The guidelines will be similar to last year, except this year corrugated cardboard will not be accepted.

Piles of material 2 feet by 8 feet and up to 3 feet tall will be picked up, along with one bulky item such as furniture or mattresses or box springs.

Non-eligible items include major appliances, tires, yard waste or hazardous waste materials.

Pick-up will begin 5 a.m. Monday, and no items are to be placed out before Saturday.

Crews will make an initial pass for mattresses and box springs on Monday, then collect the rest of the piles Monday through Thursday.

Setting things out individually and bagged up would be the preferred way to leave out the garbage.

Sometimes people will go around and pick up items for their own use that have been set out for disposal, and the city is OK with that.
