Students at Washington Elementary School met new Charles City Community Liaison Officer Duane Ollendick Thursday during an all-school assembly. He talked to the students about new fire drill procedures, specifically how police officers will be present in the school buildings during fire drills.

Ollendick took over the position in the beginning of February for Bill Vetter, who retired in 2017. Ollendick has been with the Charles City Police Department for 2½ years and has lived in Charles City for about three years.
