No-party county election filings begin

By Bob Steenson, bsteenson@charlescitypress.com

The filing period for county elected offices for candidates not running as a political party nominee began this week, and already several people have entered the races.

Party candidates were determined at a primary election June 5, but no-party candidates can file nomination papers from Aug. 6 through Aug. 29 for the Nov. 6 general election.

Amanda Theilen, election clerk at the Floyd County Auditor’s Office, provided this list of candidates that had turned in no-party nomination papers as of Thursday afternoon:

  • Floyd County recorder: Deborah K. Roberts.
  • Scott Township clerk:  Samantha Kruse.
  • Scott Township trustee:  Andrew Kruse.
  • Scott Township trustee:  Paul Ott.
  • St. Charles Township trustee:  Dennis Sanvig.
  • St. Charles Township clerk:  Geri Aikey.
  • Rock Grove Township trustee:  Michael Shanks.
  • Floyd Township trustee:  Duane Folz.

These people had previously been selected by their parties to run for office:

  • County supervisor (2 seats available): Douglas Kamm (R), Roy Schwickerath (D), Stewart Dalton (D).
  • County treasurer: Frank Rottinghaus (D).
  • County attorney: Rachel Ginbey (R).

In addition, Mike Staudt had announced previously that he will seek election to one of the county supervisor seats, running as a no-party candidate, but he had not filed as of Thursday.
