Bremer County crash claims life of Nashua man

To the Press

The Bremer County Sheriff’s office reports a fiery single-vehicle crash Thursday night claimed the life of a Nashua man.

Sheriff’s deputies identified the deceased as Arthur Penrod, 19, of rural Nashua. He died at the scene when his car left the roadway, rolled and caught fire late Thursday at the intersection of Hwy. 218 and C13, near Plainfield.

At about 11:04 p.m. Thursday, deputies discovered a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix engulfed in flames in the ditch. An investigation found that Penrod was driving the vehicle southbound on Highway 218 when it entered the ditch and hit a cement box culvert.

After impact, the car went airborne, eventually overturning and catching fire. Penrod was pronounced dead at the scene.

Assisting deputies on scene were Plainfield First Responders, the Plainfield Fire Department, Waverly Ambulance and Del’s Towing, according to the report.
