Full Moon 5K canceled due to heavy rain

By Kelly Terpstra, kterpstra@charlescitypress.com

The Floyd County Full Moon 5K scheduled for Friday evening has been canceled because of heavy rainfall and the potential for more storms. The running course meanders its way along the Cedar River and as of late Thursday afternoon the river is expected to crest at 12 feet Friday night, which is right at flood stage.

There has been no makeup date set.

“After consulting with public safety staff in Charles City, this is the best decision to ensure safety first,” said Casey Conry, community engagement manager of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa. “We will make a decision next week about rescheduling, and apologize for the inconvenience.”

Conry said there were just over 100 entrants for the 5K. All proceeds of the fundraising event go to Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa and its mentoring programs.

Direct any questions to Conry at 319-235-9397 or casey@iowabigs.org.
