The Charles City Fire Department quickly extinguished a fire late Wednesday afternoon at Casa Apartments.
A call came in at about 4:15 p.m., reporting black smoke billowing from two windows at an apartment building at 2101 Clarkview Drive. Witnesses said the fire was in room 133 of the building.
“I was sleeping, and the cops came in and were letting people know there was a fire, and led me out,” said Paige Hagarty, who lives in another apartment in the same building. “So far, what we think is, someone left something on in the kitchen.”
No further information about the fire was available from the CCFD Wednesday evening. Two trucks responded to the blaze, as well as police and ambulance services. There were no reports of any injuries.
The fire had been extinguished, and residents were allowed back into the building at about 4:45 p.m.
