GREENE — Funeral service for Avis Marie Reed, 95, of Greene, will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St., Greene, with Pastor Ann Donat officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, at Retz Funeral Home in Greene.

Avis Marie Stanbrough Reed was born on Nov. 17, 1919, near Aredale, Franklin County, Iowa, the daughter of O.J. and Bessie Ruth (Craig) Stanbrough and died on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City. She received her education in the Hansell Public Schools. Avis later earned her G.E.D.

Avis was a member of the Church Of The Brethren in Greene where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the Christian One Group in Charles City.

Avis worked at Trowbridges in Charles City for 19½ years decorating cakes after being sent for professional training in Minneapolis. She also worked at Comp Systems in Charles City for six years and did volunteer work at the Treasure Chest in for over 15 years.

She enjoyed watching Hawkeye Basketball, playing cards, gardening, growing African Violets, playing Scrabble and browsing local rummage sales. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Avis was a kind, thoughtful, and generous person.

Living family members include her son, Raymond (Jaci) Reed, Greene; her daughter, Diane (Ron) Stangl, Charles City; eight grandchildren: Terry Hansen, Tina Hansen, Danny Reed, David Reed, Dawn Staudt, Dee Oge, Matt Bohach, Russ Bohach; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Avis is preceded in death by her husband, Orville in 1990; her parents, five brothers: Pete, Earl, Doc, Don, Darrell; one sister, Toddie Poplin; one granddaughter, Tina Marie Reed.
