GREENE — Funeral services for Myrtle Shapley, 98, of Greene, will be 3 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at Retz Funeral Home in Greene with Pastor Ann Donat officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

Visitation will also be on Tuesday at the funeral home from 1 – 3 p.m.

Myrtle Shapley was born on April 15, 1917, in Floyd County, Iowa the daughter of William George and Luella Augusta (Osterhage) Barth and passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs. She received her education in public school graduating from Greene High School in 1936.

Myrtle was united in marriage to Keith Edward Shapley on Feb.21, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri.

She worked from 1941-1960 at the Greene Produce. Myrtle cleaned for the Greene Telephone Company and a number of families in the Greene area.

Myrtle was a member of the United Methodist Church in Greene.

She loved being with people and visiting with family and friends. Myrtle enjoyed lunches out with the ladies, playing Bingo at the Liebe Care Center, cooking, baking, sharing recipes, and participating in church activities.

Myrtle is survived by nieces, Janea (Robert) LaVigne, Charles City and Joan (Darwin) Schrieve, Marble Rock; nephew, Edwin Heyenga, Dike; several great and great-great nieces and nephews; faithful canine, Tippy; many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 2 nephews and a niece.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the United Methodist Church in Greene.
