Lawrence Louis Urban, the son of Louis, Jr. and Frances (Stepan) Urban, was born May 22, 1946 in Cresco, Iowa.  He grew up and attended school in Protivin, Iowa, graduating from Rudolphinum High School in 1964.  Larry entered the Army on November 16, 1965, and proudly served his country for two years.  He served one of those years in Vietnam as an Intelligence Analyst.  After Larry was honorably discharged on Nov. 15, 1967, he began working at White Farm.  Larry was united in marriage to Shirley Shatek on Oct. 17, 1970, in Fort Atkinson, Iowa.  The couple moved to the East Coast where they were both employed by the FBI for a short time.  In 1973, Larry and Shirley moved back to Charles City where Larry worked at White Farm as a machinist and Sara Lee in quality control.  His final place of employment was at Fort Dodge Animal Health (now known as Zoetis).

Larry was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.  He really enjoyed carpentry and woodworking.  Larry was very proud to see some of the picnic tables he designed and built at the city parks around Charles City.  He was a sports fan who supported the Chicago Cubs since the early 60’s, the Iowa Hawkeyes in basketball and football and for a short time even Iowa State while his children attended college (but then he returned to being a loyal Hawkeye fan).  Larry loved his family very much and treasured time spent with all of them, especially his wife and children.

Living family members include his wife, Shirley of Charles City; son, Gregory Urban (fiancée, Alexandra Alvarez de Toledo) of New York, New York; daughter, Susan Urban of Omaha, Nebraska; sister, Angeline (Leonard) Kappes of Ridgeway; two brothers:  David (Linda) Urban of Sioux City and Al Urban (Rick Powell) of Roeland Park, Kansas; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Frances Urban.
