Vetter, Gerald(2)Gerald W. Vetter, 90, of Nashua died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, at St. John United Church of Christ, Pleasant Hill, rural Nashua with Rev. John Cofield presiding. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may greet the family 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home – Olson Chapel in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.  Online condolences may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.com
Gerald Walter Vetter was born Dec. 10, 1925, in Riverton Township in rural Floyd County, Iowa, the son of Walter and Anna Marie (Litterer) Vetter. He received his education in rural country school and was a 1943 graduate of the Charles City High School. He served state-side in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on April 25, 1947. On Feb. 22, 1948, in Mason City, Iowa, he married Beulah Groen. To this union six children were born. The couple farmed west of Nashua for 48 years and Gerald continued to help on the farm with his son Paul. Gerald had also worked for the Charles City ASC office for 17 years.
In his younger days, he was very active playing softball. He loved fishing, dart-ball, playing cards, especially “500” and “Hearts.” In his latter year he spent many hours putting puzzles together. He cherished his family and time with them was the most important to Gerald.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Beulah; two sons, Galen (Kim) Vetter of Edwards, Colo., Paul (Pam) Vetter of Parnell, Iowa; four daughters, Wanda (Bob) Mondt of Charles City, Deb (Cam) Powers of Nashua, Donna (Cliff) Edson of Ionia, Patti (Larry) Schluter of Farmington, Minn.; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; one brother, Don (Shari) Vetter of Greene, Iowa; one sister, Laura Koeff of Nashua.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Dorothy (Leon) Scott, Edna (Don) Speicher, Elsie (Art) Heitz, Louise (Clarence) Gersema; brother-in-law, Delvin Koeff.
