Vera Becker

Vera Becker, 87, of Clarksville, died Friday, Feb. 26, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services are set for Tuesday, March 1 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville, officiated by the Rev. Linda Myren. Interment will take place at Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville following the service.

Vera Becker was the daughter of William Fenneman and Emma (Busse) Fenneman. On June 29, 1947, Vera was united in marriage to Nathan G. Becker at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville.

After her marriage, Vera worked at a canning factory in Clarksville and manned the telephone for Nathan’s plumbing business. Vera was a lifelong member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville, where she was an organist. She helped cook and make Jello, cakes and cookies for many events at the church and she also attended Women’s Fellowship. Vera was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, AMVETS Auxiliary and the Young Women’s Club.

She loved music and enjoyed crocheting and sewing. Vera was an excellent baker. She always had a garden, and canned and froze most of what she produced.

Vera is survived by two daughters, Carol Ann (Aurel) Becker- Abranyi of Winterhaven, Fla., and Jane (DeLaine) Freeseman of Charles City; five grandchildren, Mardy (Cyrus IV) Hornsby, Naomi (Rick Hronick) Gallmeyer, Seth (Carol) Gallmeyer, Lance (Jessica Besonen) Freeseman and Brett (Emily) Freeseman; and one great-granddaughter.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years, Nathan, on Dec. 5, 1993; one brother, Clarence Fenneman; and four sisters, Laura Edeker, Elda Rodemaker, Leona DeBower and Dorothy Lindley.

Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville is in charge of services. Memorials may be made to the family.
