Celaine Gerleman

Celaine Gerleman, 84, of Hampton, formerly Charles City, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the Hampton Rehabilitation Center in Hampton.

A funeral service for Celaine will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City with Deacon Michael Ward from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Celaine (DeWalle) Gerleman, the daughter of Eugene “Ray” and Inga (Queel) DeWalle, was born May 15, 1932 in Cresco, Iowa. Celaine was united in marriage to Gilbert Gerleman on May 25, 1973 in Freeport, Illinois. She worked for a short time in the kitchen at the hospital in Charles City and volunteered her time for both the Treasure Chest and the Food Box in Charles City.

Celaine loved gardening and canning what she was able to produce. She enjoyed crafting, knitting, taking walks (especially with her granddaughter, Kerrie, when she would visit in the summer) and playing cards. She looked forward to spending time with her family whenever it was possible.

Living family members include her granddaughter, Kerrie Dillon of Hampton; two great-granddaughters: Bianca Collins and Lilianna Dillon; brother, Eugene (Betty) DeWalle of Green Bay, Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Lester Nauman of Floyd; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilbert Gerleman in 2015; son, Randy Mellman in 2013; daughter-in-law, Debra Mellman in 1997; three sisters; and one brother.
