Gene Moyle

IONIA — Gene Moyle, 79, of Ionia, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Visitation will be held today, Friday, March 17, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at Hauser Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will be held at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Gene Arthur Moyle was born April 6, 1937 to Carl and Donna (Sargent) Moyle at home outside of Strawberry Point. Gene attended school in McGregor and in his late teens moved to Waterloo. While Gene was living in Waterloo he worked for Hawkeye Steel. It was around this time that Gene married Sharon, and to this union two children were born: Gene and Rose Ann; the couple later divorced.

On Oct. 31, 1970, Gene was united in marriage to Shirley Boggess in Galena, Ill. To this union, one son, Todd, was born. The family later moved to Minnesota, where Gene worked as a general laborer in a factory. Gene enjoyed making things, and working with wood in particular. He was also a member of the National Woodworkers Association.

Gene is survived by his children: Todd Moyle of Waterloo, Gene Moyle of North Carolina and Rose Curry of North Carolina; and his siblings: Darlene (Wally) Tolestad of Springfield, Ill.; Elwin (Blanch) Moyle of Dubuque; and Hartford (Imagene) Moyle of Springfield, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Shirley in 2014; and brother, Larry Moyle.
