Mary Louise Palmer

Mary Louise Palmer, 89, of Charles City died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, at Living Center East in Cedar Rapids. A Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, with Fr. Gary Mayer celebrating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Saturday at the Church. Private family inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Charles City. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is assisting Mary’s family.

Mary Louise (Fisher) Palmer was born Aug. 28, 1928, in Charles City, the daughter of Melvin and Lucille (Rourke) Fisher. In 1946 she graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Charles City. On June 25, 1949 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Palmer at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Mary was employed at Peerless Photo Finishing Company for many years. Upon her retirement she helped manage Wildwood Golf Course with her husband Kenneth. She also worked at the daycare for the YMCA. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, St. Theresa’s Circle and enjoyed Ladies Card Club. She was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeye’s basketball and football teams. Mary’s greatest joy was her faith and spending time with her family.

Living family members include her four children and their families: Betsy (Loran) Schroeder Albert Lea, Minnesota, Michael (Lisa) Palmer Moberly, Missouri, Kathy (John) Frey Monroe, Wisconsin and Barbara Palmer Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; Kristy (Matt) Grunzke, Brian (Jaime) Schroeder, Amanda (Ben) Lares, Jennifer Wright, Jessica (Matt) Brown, John William (Lisa) Frey, Matthew Frey; nine great grandchildren; her sister Nancy (Lee) Kane of Urbandale, a brother James (Jan) Fisher of Kansas City; and sister-in-law, Sheila (Roger) Fisher, of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother Roger Fisher.
