Eileen LaWanda (Meyer) Wegner was born March 11, 1932 at Floyd County Home, the daughter of George and Selma (Koebrick) Meyer.  She attended school through 6th grade at a country school near Ionia.

On April 3, 1949, she was united in marriage to Russell Wegner at the Lutheran Church in Ionia.  That day was chosen because Eileen’s parents were married on that same day.  They were blessed with two children.

Eileen was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Do-Day Quilting Ladies, Bible Study, and at one time Pork Producers and Welcome Club.  She helped on the farm all her married life until moving to town where she worked at Salsbury Baptist Nursing Home as an activity director until retiring.  Eileen enjoyed writing in her journal everyday, playing 500 cards, dancing, helping make quilts, taking trips, gardening, fishing, camping, gambling, eating out and working with her flowers.

She especially loved spending time with her family and friends.  People often heard her say “I love my grandkids and great grandkids so much.  They mean the world to me.”  Her special friends will hold a place in her heart forever.  Eileen will be remembered for her strong faith, big heart and generous spirit.

Living family members include daughter-in-laws Christy Wegner of Charles City and Karen Wegner of Ionia; six grandchildren, Jesse (Jessica) Wegner of West Union, Sarah (Tony) Knoll of Allison, Tanner (Michelle) Wegner of Whiteman AFB, Missouri, Amanda (Matt) Theilen of Nashua, McKenzie (Nick) Raab of Allons, Tennessee and Ryan Wegner of Colwell; seven great-grandchildren, Ava and Ella Wegner, Kylie and Peyton Knoll, Max and Emmy Wegner, and Wesley Raab.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents George and Selma, brothers Elwin and Orville, husband Russell, and sons Duane and Alan.
