Linda L. Wheat

Linda L. Wheat, 78, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018.  Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Heartland Community Baptist Church.  Visitation will be Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 6:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.  Graveside services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, June 22, 2018 at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City, Iowa.  Online condolences may be directed to meyerbroschapels.com.

Linda was born the daughter of Lloyd and Maxine (DeBoest) Swartzrock on December 1, 1939 in Charles City, Iowa.  She graduated from Charles City High School.  After graduation, she worked as a nurse’s aide.  Linda married Donald E. Wheat on June 27, 1959 in Charles City.  They moved to Sioux City in 1968.

Linda was a homemaker until the children were in grade school.  She worked for the Sioux City Public Schools for many years and also helped her husband in the family heating and cooling business, Wheat & Son.

Her passion was teaching children.  She was very involved with Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and women’s ministry.  She made several mission trips with her husband to minister to children and help build schools.

Linda enjoyed reading, cooking, and educating.

She was a member of Heartland Baptist Church.

Linda is survived by her husband, Donald Wheat of Sioux City; two sons, James (Lisa) Wheat of Glenwood, Iowa and Mike (Susie) Wheat of Smithland, Iowa; one sister, Kay (Richard) Uetz of Charles City, Iowa; five grandchildren, Kyle (Ashley) Wheat, Zach (Katie) Wheat, Alisha (Nick) Lanning, Nathan Wheat, and Lacey Wheat; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent in Linda’s name to Heartland Community Baptist Church to be used for children education and activities.
