Arthur Leroy Munson

Arthur Leroy Munson, age 100, of Nashua, IA died Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the Mercy North Iowa Hospice Home in Mason City of natural causes.

His service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Nashua with Rev. John Tunnicliff presiding. Internment will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City, IA with Timothy Howe, Matthew Larson, Chris Maage, Jacob Gaston, David Gaston and Tom Bartz serving as pallbearers.

Friends may greet the family from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Hugeback-Johnson – Olson Chapel in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service Saturday at the church in Nashua.

Art was born Jan. 6, 1918 in New Hampton, IA the son of George and Zoie (Bennett) Munson. He graduated from New Hampton High School in 1935 and started working for Oliver Farm Equipment in 1936. He held various positions throughout the years and finished his career as Manager of Manufacturing Engineering. He was a member of the Oliver Management Club during his career.

He was united in marriage to Virginia H. Schneider on July 26, 1941 and to this union four children were born. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Charles City and after moving to Nashua became a member of United Methodist Church in Nashua.

Some of his interests included woodworking, grilling, home maintenance, reading and music. He played in different area bands at dances when he was younger, playing the clarinet and saxophone. Art and Virginia spent their winters during retirement in Texas, where he again enjoyed playing in a band. Some of his favorite memories were on his pontoon with his family cruising up and down the Cedar River.

Art is survived by his son, Arthur L. (Kathy) Munson of Atascadero, CA; three daughters, Marjorie (Larry) Howe of Howard Lake, MN; Janice (Jerry) Maage of Charles City, IA; Kathleen (Wally) Gaston of Custer, SD; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia on April 30, 2015; his parents; one sister Frances Biel; three brothers: George Munson, Oliver Munson, Shelley Munson; and two half-sisters Ella and Stella.
