180815_J_Reed, Daniel-obitDaniel “Dan” Reed, 48, of Greene, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City from an accident that happened at his home in Greene.

A Celebration of Life for Dan Reed will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City.  Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Daniel Raymond Reed, the son of Raymond and Jacqueline (Keating) Reed, was born December 26, 1969 in Belvidere, Illinois.  He received most of his education in Nashua, graduating from Nashua High School in 1988.  While in high school, Dan was involved in drama and choir.  He played the Prince in The Princess and the Pea and was excited for his one win wrestling streak he achieved.  Dan continued his education at NIACC for two years in general studies, UNI to receive his Bachelor’s Degree and also his Master’s Degree in Student Services on May 10, 1997.  He worked at Hope Haven in Mason City and did an internship in Student Services at Wartburg.

Dan was a member of the National Guard from 1987 to 1988 and was honorably discharged after a diving accident which resulted in his paralysis.  He never let this get him down and he lived life to its fullest.  Dan enjoyed collecting Matchbox Cars, Hot Wheels, comic books, stock cars, going to movies, eating at Northwest Steakhouse in Mason City and entering (often winning) many contests.  He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and UNI Panthers, yelling at the television in both excitement and disgust at times.

Living family members include his parents, Raymond and Jaci Reed of Greene; three sisters:  Dawn (Lyle) Staudt, DeeAnn Thompson and Tina Hansen; two brothers:  David (Jessie) Reed and Terry Hansen; 12 nieces and nephews; four great-nieces and great-nephews; three Aunts; two Uncles; along with other family members and numerous friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Dolores Keating; paternal grandparents, Orville and Avis Reed; half-sister in infancy; aunt, Jean Davidson; and three uncles:  Richard Keating, Steve Keating and Joe Cornwell.
