George Robert Riley Cowell Jr., age 91 of Richland, MO, formerly of Nashua, IA, died Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Rosewood Manor Assisted Living in Richland.

Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2018, at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home – Olson Chapel with Rev. Darin Cerwinske officiating.

Interment with military rites will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2018 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, IA.

George Robert Riley Cowell Jr. was born August 19, 1926, in Sioux City, IA, the son of George Robert Riley Cowell Sr. and Theresa McColley. He served in the United States Navy from July 31, 1946 to the time he was honorably discharged on October 11, 1948. He earned a Victory World War II Medal. Following his discharge, he married Laura Jean Wait and to this union, a son was born. George had worked at the former Oliver Tractor Corporation and at the poultry processing plant, both in Charles City. After retirement he and his wife, Laura drove RV’s to their destinations around the country for the Winnebago Corporation. In his free time he enjoyed fishing and bowling.

Survivors include five grandchildren; Dale Wait of Springfield, MO, Robert (Lisa) Wait of Boring OR, Michell Thomas, Lucinda (Henry) West, all of Waynesville, MO, Rueben (Maggie) Wait of Springfield, MO; a daughter-in-law, Cookie Wait of Waynesville, MO; 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son Robert Dale Wait and several brothers and sisters.
