Gary Lee Tolliver

Gary Lee Tolliver, 80, formerly of Charles City, IA died Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Colonial Manor in Elma, IA.

A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018 at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt Street, Charles City. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018 at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery.

Gary was born on Dec. 3, 1937, west of Charles City in a house on Highway 14 called the Saddle Barn Farm to Earl and Blanche (Johnston) Tolliver. He grew up and attended school in Charles City. In high school he met his future wife Mary Ann and the couple was married on Nov. 2, 1958. They had three children: Tami, Kevin and Galen. The family resided the longest in Alta Vista, IA and rural Charles City.

Gary worked several town jobs while farming, some of which were White and Oliver in Charles City. In the late 1970’s he opened up Tolliver Farm Supply in Alta Vista which included feed and fertilizer sales. Gary sold the Farm Supply in 1996 and enjoyed a working retirement after that. Gary’s daily retirement routine included two or three “coffee trips” to Alta Vista to discuss how to solve the local and national issues. Included in these discussions were good natured ribbing and friendships that lasted a lifetime. Gary lived his life as a hard-working honest individual that was always ready to help anyone in need. In his free time Gary enjoyed fishing in Minnesota and Canada and spending time with family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include children, Tami (Larry) Bernstein of Tempe, AZ; Kevin Tolliver of New Hampton and Galen (Therese) Tolliver of Des Moines; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Norman (Gloria) Tolliver and two sisters, Sandra Burns and Marvlyn Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Tolliver; parents, Earl and Blanche Tolliver and brother Stanley Tolliver.
