Gerald ‘Jerry’ Wagner

190219_J_wagner obitGreene: Funeral services for Jerry Wagner, 94, of Greene, will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at St. Peter Lutheran Church with Pastor Daniel Flucke presiding. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2019 at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St. Greene.

Gerald was born November 18, 1924, in Floyd County the son of Oscar and Emma (Biekert) Wagner and passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019, at Valley View Care Center in Greene.

Jerry received his education in rural Butler and Floyd County schools, and attended Nashua High School.  On June 26, 1949 he was united in marriage to Emma Landers at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene and the union was blessed with two children.  Jerry became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Nashua, Iowa.  The family moved to Greene from Nashua in 1955.

Jerry was baptized and confirmed at Evangelical Reformed Church at Pleasant Hill. Later he became a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. He served on the Stewardship Committee, Church Council, and was an usher for services and funerals.

Before moving to Greene, Jerry was employed at the Oliver Factory in Charles City and the Chrysler Plymouth Garage in Nashua. After moving to Greene, he worked for McRoberts Implement as a mechanic and Shop Forman for the next 35 years.

Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, he liked to travel, do gardening and woodworking.

Living family members include his two children: Glenna (Jerry) Tack, Osceola, WI; Steven (Quan) Wagner, Comstock Park, MI; grandchildren: Elizabeth (Michael) Murphy, Eau Claire, WI; Kevin (Mandyn) Tack, Amery, WI; Elsie Wagner, Detroit, MI; great-grandchildren: Jacob Murphy, Cole Murphy, Lucas Murphy; sister Jean Weigand, Nashua; two sisters-in-law: Shirley Petrak, Charles City and Bonnie Wagner, Eagan, MN; brother-in-law Edward Fuoss, Waverly; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Emma in 2014, his parents, two brothers: Max Wagner and Kenneth Wagner.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family at P.O. Box 219, Greene, Iowa 50636.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St. Greene.
